Representing Seven Generations...
Nrithya Pillai.
The greatest thing about Balasaraswati and what makes her legendary is that , she brought the dreams of many women in the hereditary dancing community to reality. She not only represented , the 7 generations ( on record) of court musicians and dancers from her family but she represented so many families that lost their glorious past under tumultuous times and were made to succumb to silence in the name of social reform.
She stood tall , held her head up ( like in the dignified glances of her dancing) and went on to conquer everything and everyone.
And even now , after a hundred years -she still represents our hereditary families , artists who did not and do not make it , the one's who are lost , the one's who are shunned and the one's who are not represented.
My love and respectful salutations to Shri. Aniruddha Knight , the successor and carrier of Balamma's sacred art , sacred conviction and her true genes. Bharathanatyam wouldn't be here without Bala !
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BALAMMA
