Pure traditional dance in public spaces.
Shubha Nagarajan - December 2018

The idea ,is to take traditional dances to where people are, and they will watch.
6 women, a crazy idea, no money.

We approach aptly named,Forum Neighbourhood mall. They love the idea.To create a warm space within a stark white large mall atrium and convince traditional dancers of only Whitefield area to perform there was a daunting task.

5 months of meticulous planning.8 ladies handling Creative, publicity, backdrop, invitation to dancers, registrations, collating music, inviting art work , displaying it, inviting dance related stalls, and putting every little detail in place,
FINALLY on Dec 1st and 2nd, Sarani the Whitefield Dance Carnival took off !!and how!

On the dot, 5pm Kerala melam enter with their high energy percussion and cymbals..

51 groups,

300 dancers,
25 volunteers,
Art Gallery,
Stalls, and much much more.

Participation from communities, govt schools, special children, folk dancers, classical dancers....
The mall recorded highest footfall ever. Both days, thousands thronged the mall and stayed till the end.
8 hours of dances, seamlessly flowing ,thanks to amazing volunteers from Community partners Whitefield rising and mall staff. The amazing 8 Sarani team, comprising dance lovers and dancers led by Dipanjali Bedi,an accomplished kathak dancer.,and my role model in dance

Looking forward to next year, with maybe another crazy idea. Here is the post made in PriyaLasya of the event.
