Exploiting in the name of classical dance competitions.. as some feel strongly
Classical dancer Aparna ji brought up an important note about exploitation of young dancers in the name of competitions, a timely alert it may well be . Some say that the practice extends beyond competitions.
While there is no hard and fast rule to curtail such practices worldwide, one needs to become aware of the manner and disorder of things.
Unlike competitive academics, there is no sure way of finding, by way of testing classical dance skills.
Once any fee is charged, being obligatory, the conductor of such program becomes a service provider no matter what terminology is used says a senior dance personality. By extension the one paying the amount is for all practical purpose, a customer. It is therefore the duty that all efforts are made to consider the program as selling a service. If so, the obligations of the service provider are clear. One must take care of all aspects of such event with due care and concern towards all those involved including judges, etc.
There can be a difference of opinion and there could be genuine exceptions to this. But it's all about fairness and purpose.
