Founded by legendary odissi dancer Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Srjan has been dedicated to the teaching and performance of classical odissi for over 20 years. Today the group continues to innovate and experiment with ensemble choreography in the dance form. In this performance, they present some of the most iconic works from the ensemble’s repertoire, including Kelucharan Mohapatra’s Ardhanariswara, which deftly captures both the feminine sensuality and the masculine virility of odissi, and Ratikant Mohapatra’s Jatayu Moksha, portraying an episode in the Ramayana where the vulture Jatayu intercedes with Ravana to get Sita released from his clutches.
Srjan is led by Ratikant Mohapatra, who has carved for himself an enviable niche as an odissi dancer, percussionist, teacher and archivist.
