Many friends ask me this question - 'Can Mohiniyattam be learnt only by Malayalees?' Definitely NOT. Mohiniyattam is for all lovers of art who can appreciate the subtle charm , bhakthi sringara, and who possess a calm peaceful mind, mature enough to go through the slow paced ( not necessarily) movement patterns that require high level of concentration. These conditions are a must for all Classical Dance forms, more so for Mohiniyattam.

My Guru, Padmashri Bharati Shivaji, herself a Tamilian, is more of a Malayali than most of the Malayalis....in terms of culture, language & tradition. Guru Kanak Rele also is a Non-Keralite . I can tag so many more of my co dancers, Gurus and friends who have taken up Mohiniyattam as their life mission. Thanking all of them, they are the ones who have proved that art doesn't have boundaries of any sort.

My friends, please come forward and explore this beautiful, charming dance style and enter a world of inner calm.
